Concerning the number of layers, I used a dozen for the comet, the sun consumed a lot too, and then, ships, stars, little and big planets... That sure was a pain for my computer's RAM -- my own place this is really really cool... i like the way the comet worked, but if you are looking for critique id say that i didnt like the front of it... but the rest is awesome, the little fighter jet thingies are really good, and the planets look so realistic....

Critiques
The detail in the comet is very nice, I'm a big fan. The debris, the strands...
The nebulae in the background are cool, but all the horizontal strands spread out across the sky is kinda odd.
I enjoy the detail of the sunspot on the sun.
The gas giant could use a little more work; the bands, coloring, texture, and atmosphere. The edge of the giant is too crisp: it's a ball of gas, it oughtta be fuzzy. The grey/green bands and sort of odd 'etched' texture are neither realistic nor compelling. The general color of the giant doesn't quite match, but I may not be the best judge of that ;- )
Also, the engine trail of the middle spacecraft, when it overlaps with the giant, it looks more like a solid tube of green, than a trail of green.
